gladwyne New Home

Location: Gladwyne

Architect - Fred Bissinger

Project Type: New Construction

Project Description

Tucked away on a quaint, tree-lined site, this newly built house, designed by architect Fred Bissinger, was inspired by the codes and simplicity of old barns. Following their classic lines and rustic exposures, the home balances modesty with a sense of relaxed luxury. To enter, one must go through a custom double door set below a generous transom, flanked by false panels that imitate classic, sliding barn doors. The rest of the exterior is clad in rough stone that was excavated from the land and is believed to be the remnants of an old stone fence dating back to the 18th or 19th century. In a similar vein, the timber frame repurposes old oak beams from a barn in Valley Forge. To render the structure environmentally efficient, modern SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) were placed across the exterior walls and roof. Underneath, plank and rafter cladding round out the rustic, rural form of the home.
