Janiczek Homes completed this modern renovation and addition in Gladwyne, transforming a 1990s home into a refined, modern retreat. With architecture helmed by Varenhorst Architects, the project centers on a chef’s-grade kitchen and a new mudroom and laundry addition — spaces that blend precision craftsmanship with practical luxury.

Modern Kitchen Renovation in Gladwyne

Walls were removed to open the once-segmented kitchen, creating a light-filled gathering space defined by clean lines and natural textures. Italian cabinetry by Canova anchors the design, while a sculptural Pietra Gray island by Nero Cucine serves as the kitchen’s centerpiece.

This island features the largest sliding marble top ever made, operating with a precision mechanical system that locks safely in open and closed positions. Beneath the surface lies a stainless-steel worktop with integrated sink and cooktops — ideal for seamless prep without staining the marble. When closed, the top conceals the workspace, transforming the island into a sleek, monolithic table perfect for entertaining or casual dining.

Thermo-treated oak cabinetry with retractable doors conceals Gaggenau appliances, while a motorized stone backsplash lifts to reveal a backlit onyx panel and integrated spice storage. Along one wall, a custom cool storage display — inspired by Harrods Food Hall — pairs glass doors with walnut boxes for an artful way to store fresh produce. A butcher block island with trough-style sink adds versatility for produce prep or beverages, and a white marble baking island evokes the elegance of a traditional English kitchen.

Mudroom and Laundry Room Addition

A new addition extends the home’s functionality with a sleek mudroom, garden room, and laundry-office suite. The mudroom offers hidden storage, while the adjoining laundry space doubles as a light-filled home office. Together, these new spaces embody modern luxury, seamlessly continuing the home’s modern sensibility and timeless craftsmanship.
