Project Description

Set within the landscape of Ardrossan Farm in Villanova, this five-bedroom custom estate home stands among the defining projects in the Janiczek Homes portfolio. Designed by architect Fred Bissinger, the residence draws from the architectural traditions of Philadelphia’s Main Line while creating a home tailored to contemporary family life.

The exterior establishes the character of the home through scale, proportion, and enduring materials. Hand-laid stone masonry is paired with custom-cut Indiana limestone surrounding the windows and architectural openings. Above, a steeply pitched roof finished in authentic Vermont slate gives the residence a strong silhouette and a material richness designed to age with distinction.

Executing a home of this scale required close coordination between the architect, builder, craftsmen, and trade partners. Stone profiles, limestone detailing, slate installation, window placement, rooflines, and exterior transitions were carefully resolved to ensure the architecture reads as one complete composition.

Inside, the plan balances formal rooms with comfortable everyday living spaces. The living and dining rooms provide a sense of occasion, while the family room and kitchen form the center of daily life. Clear connections between these spaces allow the home to accommodate both intimate family gatherings and larger-scale entertaining without sacrificing privacy.

A custom gym, wine vault, billiards room, and home theater were integrated into the overall plan rather than treated as secondary amenities. Each space was built to serve a distinct purpose while maintaining the same architectural character and level of finish found throughout the residence.

The kitchen and rear family room open toward the outdoor living areas, creating a natural connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. The arrangement extends the experience of the home outdoors while preserving the structure and formality expected of a Main Line estate.

Estate homes are defined by consistency. The architecture, materials, craftsmanship, and performance must remain aligned across every elevation and every room, regardless of scale or complexity.

That level of execution begins during preconstruction. Details must be studied early, materials coordinated well in advance, and the work of specialized craftsmen carefully sequenced. On a residence of this caliber, seemingly small decisions involving stone joints, limestone profiles, slate courses, millwork, and material transitions collectively determine the quality of the finished home.
